چکیده
Purpose: Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy (SFRT) is characterized by large differences in peak and valley doses. Preclinical clinical studies suggest that biological mechanisms lead to differential normal tissue tumor response compared uniform irradiation. We hypothesize evaluate effectiveness understand fundamental mechanisms, radiobiological rather than physical dose quantities should be utilized for comparisons. The aim of this work determine whether Equivalent Uniform Dose (EUD) a superior predictor cell survival absorbed dose. Methods: Absorbed parameters were the assess their predictive value relative SFRT with X-rays. A Bayesian bootstrap technique was model uncertainties fit human fibroblast (MRC5) two lines (LN18 A549). evaluated through measurements error modeling profiles. dimensionless Relative Effectiveness Factor (REF) proposed quantify between Results: For all lines, after matched irradiation within estimated at equal values EUD. Average showed poor correlation vitro survival. REF factor dependent suggests enhanced killing both (1.14 ± .08 LN18, 1.32 .13 A549 8 Gy EUD) SFRT. Normal fibroblasts reduced (.58 .06 MRC5). Synthetically generated profiles revealed EUD are dominated uncertainties, especially high Discussion : more average or Valley close > 10 has advantage being independent parameters. novel useful metric compare quantitative Conclusion recommended comparisons results an increase normal-human cells

Dosimetric evaluation of parallel opposed spatially fractionated radiation therapy of deep-seated bulky tumors.
Application of a single fraction of parallel opposed GRID beams as a means of increasing the efficiency of radiation delivery to deep-seated tumors has been investigated. This evaluation was performed by measurement of dosimetric characteristics of the GRID radiation field in parallel opposed and single beam geometry. The limitations of the parallel opposed technique in terms of field size and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a commercially‐available block for spatially fractionated radiation therapy
In this paper, we present the dosimetric characteristics of a commercially-produced universal GRID block for spatially fractioned radiation therapy. The dosimetric properties of the GRID block were evaluated. Ionization chamber and film measurements using both Kodak EDR2 and Gafchromic EBT film were performed in a solid water phantom to determine the relative output of the GRID block as well as...
متن کاملFractionated Radiation Therapy for Benign Nonacoustic Schwannomas.
OBJECTIVES We analyzed the outcomes of patients with benign nonacoustic schwannomas treated with fractionated radiation therapy (RT). METHODS Between October 1987 and March 2013, 11 patients with benign nonacoustic schwannomas diagnosed radiographically (n=3) or pathologically (n=8) were treated with fractionated RT with curative intent at the University of Florida. We reviewed patients' medi...
متن کاملDosimetric effects of anatomical changes during fractionated photon radiation therapy in pancreatic cancer patients
Pancreatic tumors show large interfractional position variation. In addition, changes in gastrointestinal gas volumes and body contour take place over the course of radiation therapy. We aimed to quantify the effect of these anatomical changes on target dose coverage, for the clinically used fiducial marker-based patient position verification and, for comparison, also for simulated bony anatomy...
متن کاملAccelerated hypofractionated radiation therapy compared to conventionally fractionated radiation therapy for the treatment of inoperable non-small cell lung cancer
BACKGROUND While conventionally fractionated radiation therapy alone is an acceptable option for poor prognostic patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC, we hypothesized that accelerated hypofractionated radiotherapy will have similar efficacy without increasing toxicity. METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of 300 patients diagnosed with stage III NSCLC treated between 1993 and 2009. ...
